Yvonna Osborne, Maha Clarke, Georgia Harris and Alyssa DeSilva delivered the goals that handed Bermuda’s women hockey team their first win at the Central American and Caribbean Games, a remarkable 4-0 triumph over Puerto Rico in their last preliminary round pool B fixture at East Park Hockey Stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The win over Puerto Rico saw Bermuda finish third in the group and on Monday they face Jamaica in a fifth-eighth classification encounter to determine their final placing at the tournament. Dominican Republic and Barbados are heading into the semi-finals together with Cuba as well as Mexico, the top two from pool A.

Osborne, one of the scorers in Bermuda’s 3-2 loss to Barbados on Tuesday, found the target from a penalty corner just before the half-time break before Clarke added a second with a field goal in the third quarter. Harris joined in on the scoring at the start of the last quarter when she scored a field goal, with DeSilva also getting on to the scoresheet in that period after she scored from a penalty corner.

Harris did not finish the match after being shown a yellow card, which resulted in her receiving a temporary suspension in the final quarter.

Bermuda, after suffering two consecutive defeats, came out strongly against opponents who lost 2-1 to Dominican Republic and had a 1-1 draw with Barbados. Kovin Moodley’s side had 54 per cent possession, won seven penalty corners while Puerto Rico had three. Bermuda entered the attacking circle ten times while the opposition did so on 15 occasions.
