The first six innings of this game were rough sledding for the Mets. Tylor Megill was shaky at best throughout his start, struggling with his command and his secondaries in his five innings. Megill allowed a run in the first and three separate sacrifice flies in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
The Mets lineup, which featured some questionable at best lineup decisions, looked lost through the first six. They broke out in a big way in the seventh. Michael Conforto began the two out rally with a pinch hit double, and Dom Smith singled him home. A walk for Brandon Nimmo and a (intentional) walk for Pete Alonso loaded the bases. A Jeff McNeil that Cody Bellinger should have caught drove home two, and a pass ball Will Smith should have caught tied the game at four.
Both teams got runners on in the eighth, but we went into the ninth knotted up at four apiece. Edwin Diaz pitched an eventful but scoreless ninthy. Kenley Jansen countered with a scoreless frame and we went to the 10th.
The 10th was, in a word, bad. Jeurys Familia gave up a lead off homer, making it 6-4 due to the free runner. The Mets had a rally in the bottom of the frame, with Jonathan Villar driving in a run, but a horrible at bat by Tomas Nido with the game on the line cost them the game.
