Final Score: Mets 5, Marlins 3—The Báez Game - Amazin' Avenue

The Mets stopped their three game losing streak Wednesday night, beating the Marlins 5-3. The win was powered by some late inning runs in the top of the eighth, highlighted by an opposite field solo homer from Javy Báez which put the Mets in the lead.

The Mets scored their first three runs of the night in a wild second inning, where none of the three runs scored on a base hit. The craziest of the three runs came when Javy Báez slid headfirst into home, pulling his left hand back, and going around the tag with his right hand.

Carlos Carrasco made his second start of the season for the Mets, and pitched well, going into the fifth inning. After throwing four scoreless innings, Carrasco ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing one run to score while pitching, and having another baserunner he was responsible for score when Aaron Loup came on in relief of Carrasco, which made it 3-2.

Jeurys Familia followed Loup, and gave up a solo homer to Jesús Aguilar which tied the game at 3 in the sixth inning. Miguel Castro was able to keep the game even in the seventh to allow the Mets to take the lead in the eighth before Drew Smith and Trevor May came on to secure the win.

Full recap to follow.
