KeyBank's Key4Women program and SCORE Cleveland announced they're sponsoring a business pitch contest for women-owned businesses in 16 counties of Northeast Ohio.
The contest will have two tracks — one for startups and the other for existing businesses — and cash awards will total $22,000. A grand prize winner will win $10,000. (Go here for contest rules and to apply.)
The application deadline is July 31.
To be eligible, businesses must be 51% owned, controlled, operated and managed by a woman or women. They must also be headquartered in the following counties: Ashtabula, Carroll, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Harrison, Holmes, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas or Wayne.
Ten finalists will be selected by representatives from SCORE. Finalists will present a four-minute pitch and field questions for six minutes. Final awards will be chosen by a panel of five judges, which will include three local women business owners and two KeyBank bankers.
Jill Becker, vice chair of SCORE Cleveland, said in a statement, "Our goal is not only to provide money for the winner's business growth, but to provide business mentoring to any of the applicants, at their request. Growing women-owned businesses in Northeast Ohio will contribute to our overall job growth and the economy."
SCORE will offer mentoring to applicants on submission and presentation requirements. Mentoring also is available after the contest to all applicants.
Rachael Sampson, chair of Key4Women, said the contest will offer "two critical supports women-owned businesses often struggle to find or ask for: mentorship and capital."
