The Mets salvaged the final game of the series against the Braves with an encouraging 7-3 victory. The stagnant offense actually jumped out with some offense in the first two innings, buoyed by the return of Michael Conforto to the lineup. His double in the first inning set the Mets up to push across two runs on a wild pitch and a groundout, and they scored three more times in the second, with two coming on a two-run shot by Francisco Lindor.
Handed a 5-0 lead, Tylor Megill was about as good as the Mets could’ve hoped. He put up zeroes for the first four innings, and ran into trouble a bit in the fifth when he might’ve been running out of gas. He surrendered a two-run homer to Ender Inciarte to cut the lead to 5-2, but finished his evening with a fine 4.1 innings pitched.
Miguel Castro worked through the fifth, and then Corey Oswalt would come in to pitch longer than anyone expected him to. He allowed a run in the sixth, but pitched a scoreless seventh, and started the eighth but could only retire one hitter and left with a 6-3 lead. Edwin Díaz came on for a five out save with two runners on, and got out of the jam. The Mets added a run in the bottom half of the eighth to make it 7-3, and Diaz locked it down in the ninth.
