Final score: Mets 3, Orioles 2—Pat Mazeika is magic - Amazin' Avenue

For the second time this year, Pat Mazeika came up with a chance to win the game and hit into a walk-off fielder’s choice, giving the Mets a 3-2 win in their series opener with the Orioles at Citi Field.

In a game that featured excellent starting pitching from Marcus Stroman and John Means, the Orioles struck first, plating a run in the seventh and adding one more in the eighth. The game also featured injuries, as Jeff McNeil left early with cramping, and Albert Almora Jr. suffered a scary injury when he tried to catch a fly ball on the warning track in the top of the eighth but came up just empty after smashing his head into the wall at full speed. Luckily, he walked off under his own power.

The Mets got on the board with a run in the bottom of the eighth when Michael Conforto singled one in. And after a night of frustration and double plays galore, the Mets’ offense finally came through in the ninth, with Dom Smith tying the game with a single and Mazeika plating the walk-off run with a ground ball to first that drew a throw home—a throw that Jonathan Villar beat to the plate with a slide.

Full recap to follow.
