Hurricane Tammy continues to strengthen as the Category 2 hurricane spins over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean on a path that could eventually bring tropical storm conditions to Bermuda this weekend.

It's Tammy's next chapter after it slammed into the northeastern Caribbean Islands as a Category 1 storm with hurricane-force winds and heavy rain last weekend.

The latest NHC advisory has Hurricane Tammy moving to the northeast at about 13 mph.

A northward turn is expected later Wednesday, followed by a slower motion to the northwest or west-northwest Thursday and Friday.

Even though Tammy is hundreds of miles away from the Caribbean islands, the storm is still producing large waves that are impacting portions of the Leeward Islands, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Those swells are continuing to cause life-threatening surf and rip currents.
