Bermuda: Prison officer injured during incident at Westgate Prison ... - Loop News Caribbean

National Security Minister Michael Weeks confirmed today that a prison officer received non-life-threatening injuries during last Friday’s violent outbreak at the Westgate Correctional Facility in Bermuda.

Weeks said the Bermuda Police Service is investigating the matter.

“I condemn this act of violence by inmates at the Westgate Correctional Facility against a Corrections staff member and stand in solidarity with them,” he said in a statement.

“The Department of Corrections takes incidents like this extremely seriously and understands the importance of safety and security in the workplace.”

The injured officer has been discharged from hospital.

Weeks added the officer would receive the support and resources needed to fully recover.
