The Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs have done the best job defensively of shutting down the Cowboys offense this season. Both AFC West teams played aggressive man defense in the secondary. Dallas’ wide receivers struggled with the physical coverage, and quarterback Dak Prescott didn’t play well in either game.
Will the Las Vegas Raiders try to do the same today? Prescott thinks it’s a good possibility, especially on third down. The Raiders haven’t played a lot of man coverage on normal down and distances, he said.
“Obviously that working for the Chiefs and that working for the Broncos, and then this being the same division, and it being a copycat league, I imagine they do,” Prescott said. “For us, it’s just playing through it. Being more physical than them off the line of scrimmage, and understanding that whether they hold or things like that that we might not get the call. But we got to keep our demeanor the same, we’ve got to fight through it and we just got to go compete.”
Prescott felt the Cowboys lost to Denver, 30-16 in Week 9, because they took the Broncos too lightly.
“I’m a result of it,” he said, “just thinking it was going to be an easy game and we’ll walk in and beat them.”
He saw last week’s 19-9 loss at Kansas City differently. In that one, Dallas didn’t respond to being punched in the mouth.
“We’ve talked about responding,” Prescott said, “and somebody has obviously got to pay for that. We just got to go out in this game and show how physical we can be.”
