With a 230 day playing season, 2021 was a busy year for Hillsview Municipal Golf Course.
Hillsview PGA Carin Hayn says over 32,300 rounds of golf were played at the city-owned course– more rounds than any year since the 2011 flood.
Hayn says Hillsview hosted more than 40 events including the SDGA Men’s and Women’s Match Play Championship, the SDGA Junior Tour Championship and the Desert Classic. Securing those events is a competitive process. She says many golf courses want to host and Hillsview has some great local ambassadors who help keep the course at the top of the “sought after” locations lists.
Hayn said this year the Ladies and Men’s Golf Associations donated patio furniture, a TV, and tournament software to the course. Additionally, in memory of John Hipple, his family donated funds that were used to purchase multiple sets of clubs for the course’s junior golf program.
Parks and Recreation Director Tom Farnsworth chimed in with his own thoughts on the successful season.
“It was a banner year and much thanks goes to the staff,” said Farnsworth. “Carin provides top notch customer service. And despite a dry year, our superintendent, Bryan Tipton, kept our course in great condition.”
Hillsview wrapped up its 2021 season on Nov. 11.
