HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The City of Hastings Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a lifeguard certification course in coordination with the American Red Cross at the Hastings Aquacourt.
Participants who wish to receive certification must be at least 15 years old and must be able to meet the following criteria:
- Ability to swim 300 yards continuously
- Ability to tread water for two minutes with legs only
- Ability to complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds
Participants will receive their American Red Cross Certification in Lifeguarding as well as CPR/AED/First Aid for Professional Rescuers. The certifications are valid for two years.
The cost to attend is $100, which includes the certifications and CPR masks. A class manual is available for an additional fee.
The class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 10-12, with seven hours of online course work required prior to the in-person classes.
Those who are interested can register in person at the Parks and Recreation Office at 2015 W. 3rd St. in Hastings. The deadline to register is June 7. Questions can be directed to the office at 402-461-2324.
