LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The 121st U.S. Open is underway Thursday at Torrey Pines after a weather delay of nearly two hours, and there are a ton of storylines to follow starting in Round 1. When we talk about this year's U.S. Open far off the coast of the Pacific Ocean, we have to start where we finished in September at Winged Foot.
Bryson DeChambeau is again among the favorites and will try to deploy his "hit it as far as humanly possible, find it and hit it again" strategy. It's been effective at the last several U.S. Opens, and I suspect it will be again this week. Many other narratives will emerge, too. Jon Rahm, probably the hottest golfer in the world (despite not winning), is trying to avenge his recent withdrawal after testing positive for COVID-19. Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Collin Morikawa and DeChambeau are all looking for their second majors. Patrick Cantlay, Tony Finau and Rahm are all looking for their first. U.S. Opens are always chaotic, and this one will undoubtedly also fit that mold.
CBS Sports will update this story with scores and highlights from the U.S. Open below. Check out the live scores at the top of this story, a more detailed leaderboard, Round 1 tee times and our complete viewer's guide.
