Softball Struggles to Score, Drops Two on Saturday - University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletics - GoMocs.com

CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team struggled to drive in runs, going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, during a pair of tight losses to Butler, 1-0, and Green Bay, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon inside Jim Frost Stadium.

The Mocs fall to 4-6 overall following the doubleheader. Butler and Green Bay each evened its season records to 6-6 and 3-3, respectively.

Chattanooga returns to action tomorrow for two more against these same teams, kicking off the day with a 12:30 p.m. ET meeting against Green Bay ahead of the 3 p.m. ET finale against Butler. Both games are LIVE on ESPN+ with links located on the schedule page.

Full game recaps are below.

GM1: BUTLER 1, UTC 0 | BOX
Kailey Snell singled in the bottom of the first and advanced to second on a throwing error. Snell advanced to third with two outs but was left stranded after a ground out to second thwarted the early threat.

Kat Thompson made her third start of the season in the circle for UTC and dazzled, especially early on. Thompson struck out the side in the second inning and allowed just three hits over the first five innings of work.

Chattanooga threatened again in the home half of the fifth after a Liz Rodebaugh one-out single led to reaching second with two outs. Similar to the second frame, a groundout to the right side stranded the go-ahead run in scoring position.

Butler broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth when Karli Ricketts laced an RBI double to center field, scoring a Bulldog runner from first. The RBI knock would prove to be the game-winner after UTC stranded a runner in the home half and were sat down in order in the seventh.

Thompson (1-2) suffered the loss despite completing the start in the circle, her first career complete game, and allowing no earned runs and just four hits while striking out a career-high six.
