DENVER – The No. 5 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team posted a season-high 197.800 in a tri-meet win over No. 8 Denver (196.725) and Temple (194.850) Sunday night inside Hamilton Gymnasium in Denver, Colo.
The Sooners posted the top score on all four events with a 49.375 on vault, 49.325 on bars, 49.625 on beam and 49.475 on floor.
OU took home three event titles with Allie Stern and Evy Schoepfer taking home vault with matching 9.95s. Audrey Davis earned her fourth-straight uneven bars title with a 9.95 for the second consecutive week. Davis also took home beam as she shared it with teammate Ragan Smith.
The Sooners started the meet with a strong first rotation on bars and a 49.325 to take the lead over Denver and Temple. Senior Karrie Thomas started the meet with a season-high 9.9, followed by a 9.85 from freshman Katherine LeVasseur. Senior Jordan Draper added a 9.800 in the No. 3 spot, while Smith tallied a 9.825. Davis capped things off with yet another incredible routine and a stuck double front dismount for a career best 9.95.
The beam team responded in the best way, tallying a nation-best 49.625 on the apparatus. Davis and Smith were the highlights as the duo each tallied a 9.95. The score was a career-best for Davis who now has career highs of 9.95 on two events (beam, bars).
The Sooners counted only scores of 9.9 during the rotation with sophomore Vanessa Deniz tallying a career-high 9.9 in the No. 3 spot in her first beam appearance of the season. Sophomore Jenna Dunn notched a career-high 9.925 as the leadoff and senior Anastasia Webb added a 9.900 in the No. 5 spot. Schoepfer was also rock solid in the rotation, notching a 9.85 in the No. 2 spot.
OU tallied a season-best 49.475 on floor in the third rotation. Draper started things off strong with a 9.850, followed by a 9.875 from Schoepfer. In the No. 3 spot, freshman Bell Johnson notched a career-high with a 9.900. Deniz added a season-best and tied her career high with a 9.925. Smith anchored with a 9.25, leading OU to the second-highest floor score in the nation in 2021.
The Sooners wrapped up the meet by posting their highest vault score of the season with a 49.375. Stern was phenomenal again with a stuck Yurchenko 1.5. Schoepfer also notched a career-high 9.95 on her tucked 1.5. LeVasseur notched a 9.875 on her 1.5, while Webb added a 9.800. Davis tallied a 9.800 on her Yurchenko full to wrap up her three-event night.
The Sooners will travel down to the Lone Star State to defend their title at the annual Metroplex Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 13. OU has won the last two times and will look to make it three straight when it takes on Centenary, Iowa State and TWU inside the Fort Worth Convention Center. The meet is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
