Sure, there would be challenges, but @nascarcasm is here to pitch a fun idea: NASCAR running the Daytona Beach course in Florida just like the old days.

This is an official proposal that we run one race each year on the old Daytona Beach course – you know, the one they used to run in the first half of the 1900s. You just immediately thought of like 100 reasons why this idea is terrible. Before you move on to the next 100, let me explain to you why this is actually the best idea ever.

The reboot is all the rage these days. How many reboots has Hollywood churned out as of late? I lost track after the 30th version of the “Spider-Man” saga. Think of this as NASCAR producing a reboot or remake of a previous race – granted, one with cars potentially sliding into the Atlantic Ocean, but new plot twists keep the audience guessing.

The choose mark will have to be drawn in the sand every restart. And depending on the waves, it could be completely washed away and re-drawn in a new spot for the next restart. And if it leads to a big shakeup in the order, the announcer could say, “I guess you could say the tide has turned … ” and then clear a spot on the shelf for the Sports Emmy because that’s good stuff.

Fans of both asphalt and dirt racing will be satisfied to find the Daytona Beach course offers both! The front stretch is on asphalt, while the backstretch is on sand, which is like dirt but fancier. Pick where you wish to watch the race! It’s no different than an orca whale show – do you want to sit in the splash zone or do you want to stay dry?

Should Austin Dillon win the race, his famous head-first slide will be much safer if performed on the wet sand. In fact, there’s a pretty good chance he’d dig himself in a little bit.

Imagine the look on the face of the crew chief when the driver reports, “The car is a bit tight into Turn 1 and sinking five feet into the wet sand at the exit of Turn 2. Please fix both of these problems.”

The outside wall gives us things like the Darlington Stripe, but the lack of the outside wall gives us things like the Daytona Beach Course Shark Attack.

Wrecks happen for myriad reasons, but never has one been triggered because the spotter was distracted by a family of happy dolphins.
