FGA gymnasts score individual, team honors at Carolina Classic - PolkSports

Foothills Gymnastics Academy gymnasts again delivered an excellent showing, on this occasion at the Carolina Classic on February 7 in Greenville.

ScottLynn Whiteside represented FGA at the Xcel Bronze level and Genevieve Ard at the Xcel Silver level. Zina Ishwar, Anna-Carlisle Keim, Hallee Mathis, Eliza Then and Sherlyn Trejo competed at the Xcel Gold level.

Whiteside raised her all-around by .5 to 36.65 with her first on vault with 9.55, second on floor with 9.1 and third on beam with 9.2. With her impressive vault score, she earned the “Powerhouse Vault” award for having the highest vault score in her session of approximately 50 gymnasts.

Ard achieved her highest all-around this season of a 37.7, including her highest on bars this season with a 9.85, first on beam with 9.45 and tied for first on vault with a 9.35. With her high bars score, she earned the “Swing High Bar” award for having the highest vault score in her session of approximately 70 gymnasts.

FGA’s Xcel Gold team won first place with gymnasts in first, second and third places on the podium. Mathis’ scores continue to improve with her all-around increasing to 36.05, sharing second place all-around in her age level division. She received first on vault with 9.1, second on beam with 9.15, 9.0 on bar and third on floor.

Ishwar earned second place in her level for her age with 37.45 all- around, almost a point and a half higher than her last competition, with second on beam with 9.4, tied for second on vault with 9.35 and third on bar with 9.35. Keim achieved first place in her age group with her 37.8 all-around with first on vault with 9.6, first on floor with 9.65, second on beam with 9.35 and a tie for second on bars with 9.2. She received two special awards for the highest vault score in her session and the judges award for floor.

Then earned first in her age group for her level with a 37.85 all-around from her first on vault with 9.35, first on beam with 9.55, tied for first on floor with 9.5 and third on bars with 9.45. She received a special award for the highest beam score in her session. Trejo placed third in her level for her age group with 36.9 all around from her first on vault with a 9.4, first on bars with 9.7, second on floor with a 9.6, and fourth on beam. She received a special award for the highest bar score in her session.

FGA’s coaches were very excited and proud of all the growth and awards the gymnasts were able to bring home. The gymnasts compete next on February 19 at the Gymnast Strong invitational in Greenville.
