TCS accreditation score is well over national average - Trussvilletribune

From The Tribune staff reports

TRUSSVILLE — Trussville City Schools scored a 311 on its accreditation process.

Cognia (formerly known as AdvancED) performed a re-accreditation review from Oct. 4 – 7, on the system. Accreditation must take place every five years.

TCS Board of Education President Kathy Brown and BOE member Steve Ward attended the Trussville City Council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, and revealed the great news.

The average score on accreditation is 278-283, so TCS was well above the national average. This year’s process was different due to COVID-19. All 31 performance standards were assessed virtually.

Hewitt-Trussville High School was also named a National Blue Ribbon High School this year.

During the city council meeting, Council President Alan Taylor thanked the BOE for their volunteer work in making TCS what it is.

“Just those scores should make us proud,” Taylor said. “We hear every single day that people are coming to Trussville and one of the main reasons is for our schools and y’all ought to be thanked for that.”

Taylor also recognized former City Council member Jef Freeman, who served as the city council liaison to the BOE.

“He’s done a great job for our city,” Taylor said of Freeman. “A lot of what you see down here, we owe a thanks to him and others for that.”
