The Miami Dolphins beat the Los Angeles Rams 28-17 on Sunday, notching their third win in a row and their first under starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Though Tua did not have a significant part in the Dolphins’ victory this week, Miami did not need to lean on him after taking a 28-7 lead in the first half thanks to four turnovers by Rams quarterback Jared Goff.
Though Goff was able to move the ball in the fourth quarter and add to his passing stats, LA’s comeback bid was not enough and they drop to 5-3 headed into the bye week.
The Rams, once the NFL’s best first quarter team, failed to score on an opening drive for the third game in a row. That didn’t seem as concerning after LA took a 7-0 lead following an Aaron Donald forced fumble on Tagovailoa that setup a short field, but then Goff’s inaccuracy issues from the previous two games reappeared and then hit a new low point. Goff threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles in the first half and the mistakes were directly on the quarterback.
He had at least more throws that should have been intercepted but were dropped by Miami defenders, and at least two of those seemed that they would have been returned for touchdowns if the ball had been secured.
The Rams have next week off and are 5-3 at the midway point of the season. They return in Week 10 with four difficult opponents in the next four weeks: Seahawks, Buccaneers, 49ers, Cardinals.
