Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner, died on Saturday, Commissioner Jay Monahan confirmed. He was 30 years old. There were no immediate details on the cause of his death. The talent was known for his promising career, and for his candidness on his struggles with alcoholism and mental health.

Murray and his then-caddie Doug Schwimer were involved in a scooter crash in Bermuda in 2022, when he was in town for the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. The two were riding separate scooters on the way to their hotel, when they collided head-on with a car coming from the opposite direction. This left Murray unconscious and unable to remember being taken to the hospital. He sustained severe injuries, including 50 stitches- 25 of which were on his face alone.

In a statement to Golfweek, Murray expressed his gratitude for the helmet, pointing out that it most likely saved his life. However, despite being sober at the time of his accident, he was forced to withdraw from the tournament, citing recovery and rehabilitation.

Murray's career was not without its troubles. He was known for being candid about his struggles with alcoholism and mental health issues. Despite these challenges, however, he went on to win multiple tournaments- including the 2017 Barbasol Championship and the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii.

The news of Murray's passing sent waves of shock and grief through the community. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan expressed his loss at the passing of the talent. “I am at a loss for words,” he said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

Grief counselors were made available for all those who needed it at PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour events.
