The Miami Marlins will look to punch their ticket to the NLDS with a win over the Chicago Cubs in Game 2 of the best-of-three Wild Card Series (GameTracker) on Friday at Wrigley Field. The Marlins received a three-run home run from Corey Dickerson and a two-run home run from Jesus Aguilar in the five-run seventh inning of their Game 1 win (MIA 5, CHC 1).
The Cubs are sending veteran right-hander and NL Cy Young candidate Yu Darvish to the mound in Game 2. Darvish was marvelous during the regular season, pitching to a 2.01 ERA with 93 strikeouts in 76 innings. It will be his first postseason start since taking the loss in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series. The Marlins will counter with hard-throwing rookie righty Sixto Sanchez. Sanchez had a 3.46 ERA in seven regular season starts. He was the headliner in the J.T. Realmuto trade a few years ago. First pitch is scheduled for 2:08 p.m. ET on ABC -- stream on fuboTV (Try for free) in select markets, including Chicago.
Miami will attempt to win Game 2 without arguably their best all-around player. Trade deadline pickup Starling Marte suffered a broken hand on a hit by pitch in Game 1. He was not in the original Game 2 lineup Thursday -- Thursday's game was rained out -- and is day-to-day. The team hopes he will be able to play through the injury later in the postseason.
