The Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays will continue their best-of-seven American League Championship Series on Monday afternoon at Petco Park in San Diego. The Rays jumped out to a 1-0 series lead after winning a close Game 1 on Sunday.
The Astros will start right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. for Game 2. McCullers lasted just four innings in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Athletics. He gave up five runs (four earned, three home runs) on nine hits and a walk while striking out five. In his five career postseason starts, McCullers is 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA.
The Rays will counter with right-hander Charlie Morton. Morton was part of the 2017 Astros team that won the World Series. He signed with the Rays as a free agent during the 2018 offseason. Morton picked up the win in his Game 3 ALDS start against the Yankees. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts and two walks over five innings. In three postseason starts with Tampa, Morton is 3-0 with a 1.20 ERA. When the Astros and Rays faced each other in last year's ALDS, Morton allowed one run and struck out nine in five innings in Tampa Bay's Game 3 win.
