Leslie strengthened into a hurricane overnight, with winds now at 75 mph.

At 5 a.m., the center of Hurricane Leslie was located 505 miles east-southwest of Bermuda.

Leslie continues to have an impact on area beaches, and a beach hazards statement was issued through this evening for rough surf and dangerous rip currents.
Leslie is nearly stationary, and little motion is expected today. A northward motion is forecast to begin tonight, and this motion should continue through Friday night.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph, with higher gusts.
Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next day or so.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 230 miles.

Hazards affecting land from Hurricane Leslie
Surf: Large swells generated by Leslie will continue to affect portions of the southeastern coast of the United States, Bermuda and the Bahamas during the next few days.
Swells are expected to increase near the coasts of New England and Atlantic Canada by the end of the week.
A beach hazards statement is in effect from 7 a.m. through this evening along the Treasure Coast and all east Central Florida beaches.
Rough surf conditions will be present all day due to onshore winds, while the threat of rip currents will be greatest this morning through noon due to tidal effects.
Chances for tropical wave in Caribbean to develop increasing
A large area of cloudiness and showers located over the central and southwestern Caribbean Sea is associated with a broad area of low pressure.
Conditions appear to be favorable for some gradual development of this system late this week and this weekend when the low drifts over the northwest Caribbean Sea.
