The 51st edition of the Newport Bermuda Race begins Friday.
A fleet of 171 yachts will race 635 miles from Rhode Island to Bermuda in about three days. The start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The biennial race began in 1906, and participants said it's a must-see for sailing fans.
"They're seeing a classic race that's been going for over 100 years. They're witnessing something that has taken place every two years. It's a spectacle," said John Winder, a participant.
Spectactors can view the start from Fort Adams and Castle Hill.
