An Archmere graduate who died in Bermuda last month will be laid to rest this weekend after a viewing at his former high school.

Mark Lee Dombroski, of Media, Pennsylvania, died after falling down a 35-foot cliff into a dry moat while in Bermuda for the Ariel Re Bermuda International Sevens rugby tournament over spring break. The 19-year-old had gone missing and was found more than 24 hours later after friends and teammates began a search of the island.

His death came as a shock to friends and family, who remembered him as a "gifted athlete and a spirited competitor," according to his obituary. He had a "lit from within" personality, his obituary said, and "was a blessing to many beyond his family," which consisted of his parents, John and Lisa (Lynn), as well as older brothers, John and Kevin Dombroski.

Recruited by many universities, Dombroski was a freshman at St. Joseph's University and a member of the varsity rugby team. He was in Bermuda as part of the university's team.

"Mark wanted all to be happy, as he was," his obituary said. "He helped many friends get through tough times. He loved Jesus and was an Altar Server at Nativity BVM and participated in numerous summer mission trips to Appalachia with Media Presbyterian Church to help build and renovate homes."

He was also a gifted athlete, co-captaining both the Archmere football and rugby teams where he played wide receiver, safety, punter and kicker in football, and wing and full back in rugby. He was also named MVP for the Delaware State Championship in rugby.

When he wasn't playing sports, Dombroski was "wakeboarding, boating, and eating sunset bayside meals with family and friends" in Brigantine, New Jersey, according to his obituary.

"His family knows his love will always surround them," his obituary states.

The Mark Dombroski Foundation has been established in his memory and will focus on youth education, athletics and safety.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the foundation.

Those looking to donate can mail checks to The Mark Dombroski Foundation, c/o James Flanagan & Associates, 28 West Eagle Road, Suite 204, Havertown, PA 19083. Donations may also be made through the online GoFundMe page at gofundme.com/mark-dombroski.

Already, the online page has raised nearly $27,000.

The viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the patio at Archmere Academy, 3600 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont. The funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in the theatre at Archmere Academy and a burial will immediately follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Media.

Those who cannot attend Friday evening but wish to pay their respects can go between 3 and 5 p.m. Thursday to the Rigby Harting & Hagan Funeral Home, 15 E. Fourth Street, Media.
