The captain of a catamaran suffered a collapsed lung and broken ribs after falling from the ship’s mast.
The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre received a call from the 57ft Quest on Monday with a report that the crew member had fallen six to seven feet onto his back.
A marine operations spokesman said: “The injured crew member was conscious, but due to the pain around his rib cage, they suspected broken ribs.
“Details and photos were sent to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital to prepare for his arrival.
“An ambulance was arranged but cancelled by the vessel as they would arrange a taxi to the hospital. The Quest arrived at the customs dock at 8am the following day, and the crew member was taken to hospital.
“A later update from the Quest skipper was that the crew member had a collapsed lung and broken ribs, so would recover in hospital for three to four days.”
