To quote the late Yogi Berra, "It's deja vu all over again." No. 2 Clemson will face No. 3 Ohio State in the 2021 Sugar Bowl, a College Football Playoff semifinal game ... just like the last two meetings between the Tigers and Buckeyes. Last year, it was Clemson squeaking by OSU 29-23 in the Fiesta Bowl. Four years ago, in the 2016 Fiesta Bowl, it wasn't as close, though the ultimate result was the same as Clemson cruised 31-0.
Perhaps moving the game to New Orleans will be what the Buckeyes need to pick up their first win against the Tigers, or perhaps it won't matter. Whatever the case, we aren't short of storylines for this one as Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has been handing Ohio State all the bulletin board material it could ever need lately. Not only did Swinney have Ohio State at No. 11 on his Coaches Poll ballot, he's been vocal about his belief a 6-0 team doesn't deserve to be in the playoff over teams that played nearly twice as many games. Of course, one wonders if he'd have been saying all of this publicly had he known his team would be without its offensive coordinator as Tony Elliott will miss the game after contracting COVID-19.
Clemson's Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State's Justin Fields may be the first two quarterbacks taken in the NFL Draft, but they're just two of a dozen or so players who will likely hear their names called in April.
