The College Football Playoff kicks off New Years Day with the first of two national semifinals taking place at AT&T Stadium when No. 1 Alabama faces No. 4 Notre Dame in the relocated 2021 Rose Bowl. It's been a season unlike any other in college football history, so it's appropriate that the season ends with a Rose Bowl unlike any other. The game was pushed from Pasadena, California, to Arlington, Texas, due to attendance restrictions and safety precautions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. It's only the second time the game will not be played in Pasadena with the first coming in 1942 after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
While the setting may be unfamiliar for the Rose Bowl, the contenders are familiar with national championship contention (28 titles between the two of them) and even playing against each other in one of the biggest games of the year. In addition to the iconic college football brands involved, the game with packed with intrigue for both teams. Alabama's high-flying offense features two Heisman Trophy finalists in quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver DeVonta Smith, while Notre Dame is led by Ian Book (the winningest quarterback in program history) and ACC Rookie of the Year running back Kyren Williams. The Crimson Tide are on a mission to return to the top of the mountain and win another national title, while the Fighting Irish know their reputation as one of the game's top programs can be solidified or debated based on their performance.
