No. 2 Notre Dame looks to maintain its hold on first place in the ACC standings and an inside road to the ACC Championship Game as it visits Boston College on the heels of its 47-40 double-overtime win against then-No. 1 ranked Clemson. This is, after all, the first time ever that the Fighting Irish have been competing for a conference championship, so with the ACC title and a College Football Playoff appearance in the cards after last week's win, the stakes have never been higher.
Boston College is hoping that it can recapture some of the magic that helped it nearly knock off Clemson two weeks ago in Death Valley and take that extra step against the Irish on Saturday. The Eagles are off to a 5-3 start in Year 1 under coach Jeff Hafley and have found success offensively in the passing game with Phil Jurkovec, who transferred to BC from Notre Dame.
The storylines around this game -- Jurkovec facing his old team, flashbacks of a Boston College upset in 1993 and the Red Bandana uniforms to honor Welles Crowther -- a former Boston College lacrosse player who lost his life in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, after saving as many as 18 lives -- are fascinating, but ultimately the result will be decided by the play on the field.
