The San Francisco 49ers put together a fantastic first half of football and lead the division rival Los Angeles Rams by a score of 21-6 at halftime. Jimmy Garoppolo wasn't asked to do much more than play point guard and distribute the ball to his playmakers, but he played the role about as well as possible, completing 17 of 21 passes for 215 yards and three scores -- one each to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk.
Combined with Raheem Mostert's strong running (64 yards in the first half), Garoppolo's efficiency allowed the Niners to control the ball for the significant majority of the half, keeping the L.A. offense off the field. The 49ers handily won the time of possession battle, controlling the rock for 21 of the first 30 minutes. Rams quarterback Jared Goff was inaccurate on several first-half throws, though he did salvage his opening stanza with a 10-yard touchdown toss to Robert Woods.
