Pathologist: US teenager died from fall in Bermuda

HAMILTON, Bermuda (CMC) — An overseas forensic pathologist says he believes visiting American teenager Mark Dombroski, whose body was found in a dry moat on the outskirts of Hamilton, died from a fall.

Christopher Milroy, a Canadian flown in to carry out a post-mortem, told a news conference on Thursday that he performed a “very detailed analysis”.

“My conclusions from my examination are that Mark died from a fall from a height. I found no evidence of foul play in my post-mortem examination,” Milroy said.

The 19-year-old's body was found about 4:00 pm on Monday in the moat at Fort Prospect in Devonshire parish, a day and a half after he disappeared following a night out with friends in Hamilton.

Superintendent Sean Field-Lament said Dombroski, a freshman at St Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who came to the island for a rugby tournament at the weekend with his college team, was found at the base of a 35-foot drop.

Field-Lament said the investigation was ongoing.

Addressing reports from some media that Dombroski could have been murdered, Field-Lament said it was “unfortunate that certain aspects of this case were taken out of context. We are still open-minded and accept all evidence that can be gathered. As such, we will be exhausting all avenues at the scene to try to determine, if we possibly can, what happened. There may be questions that we'll never be able to answer”, he said.

Dombroski's death followed other deaths in the past week. These included the death of a three-month-old boy, Roman Edwards-Easton, who died on his first day at a day care centre in a private home on Monday.

Police said a post-mortem examination would be carried out by Milroy.

He will also carry out a post-mortem on a man who died on Wednesday after sustaining injuries in a fight on Front Street at the weekend.

He was named by police as 30-year-old Dejon Simmons. A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile two men, Demarcvjai Williams, 29, and Marco Salema, 34, died last Friday night after their motorcycles collided head-on on a road near Hamilton.

Their deaths marked the second and third road fatalities of 2018.
