Two flights from the United States to Bermuda have been cancelled because of bad weather.

A Skyport spokeswoman said the American Airlines flight from John F Kennedy International Airport in New York and the Delta flight from Boston had both been called off.

She added: “Severe weather conditions on the East Coast have caused flight cancellations and delays to Bermuda.

“American Airlines flight AA1609 from JFK is cancelled as well as Delta flight DL561 from Boston.

“Additionally, Delta flight DL437 from JFK to Bermuda has been delayed with a tentative arrival time of 3.25pm.”

The Delta flight from Boston to Bermuda was scheduled to take off at 10.20am and arrive at 1.27pm.

The American Airlines flight from New York was due to depart at 8.30am and arrive at 11.41am.

Bermuda faces a windy weekend as a northeaster storm barrels up the Eastern Seaboard, with the Bermuda Weather Service forecasting gale to storm-force winds around midday.

A small craft warning is in effect since this morning and a gale warning has been issued for late this morning through Sunday morning.

A thunderstorm advisory will also take effect this afternoon.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
