Nassau, Bermuda & More: JetBlue Adds 4 New York LaGuardia Routes - Simple Flying

The USA's 6th largest airline by flights, JetBlue has put on sale New York LaGuardia to Atlanta, Bermuda, Hyannis, and Nassau, along with Boston to Vancouver. LaGuardia is JetBlue's 5th busiest airport, with the carrier's route network growing to 20. A lot of the departure times of the new routes correspond to when partner American has LaGuardia flights planned, but it is unclear if JetBlue's expansion is related to that or if slots were obtained another way.

As for Boston-Vancouver, the long route was initially set to launch last June but was postponed. Now it is back, but with larger aircraft and more flights.

JetBlue adds four LaGuardia routes

The launch of Bermuda and Hyannis means they return to New York LaGuardia. In the case of Hyannis, in the ever-popular Cape Cod, after a long, 14-year absence, when US Airways Express' Saab 340s last served it.

Bermuda, meanwhile, was served much more recently, albeit very briefly and infrequently. Indeed, the 772-mile (1,243km) route hasn't had a 1x daily service since April 2014. The same can't be said about Atlanta, which rises to 27x daily thanks to JetBlue's entry, assuming American remains. That is not as high as the previous best (33x daily) in 2007/2008, but it's getting there.

JetBlue: Boston to Vancouver

The 2,514-mile (4,045km) link from Boston to Vancouver is now scheduled and bookable to take off on June 15th, one year and three days after its original flight was due to leave. Then, it was to use the 140-seat A220-300. Now it'll deploy the A320. Previously, it was to be 6x weekly, but it will now be 1x daily. It has the following schedule, with all times local:

  • Boston to Vancouver: B649, 07:40-21:07 (6h 27m block time)
  • Vancouver to Boston: B650, 22:10-06:27+1 (5h 17m)

98,000 passengers

According to booking data, Boston-Vancouver had about 98,000 roundtrip point-to-point passengers in 2019, obviously falling significantly after that due to the pandemic. The US was the primary point of sale.

JetBlue won't have the market to itself. It'll compete directly with Air Canada's 1x daily, summer-seasonal service, with the first departure from Boston on June 17th, two days after JetBlue takes off. Air Canada will use the 169-seat 737 MAX 8.
