BOSTON – The Boston University women's cross country team recorded a second-place finish at the Suffolk Short Course Classic to open the 2022 season on Friday.
BU was dominant from the beginning of the race on its way to 56 points in the event. Local rival Northeastern took first place with 16 points.
"I thought today was a great way to kick off the season for both squads," said associate head cross country coach Jordan Carpenter. "It was great to see some of our young talent shine as both squads were led by first-years in their first opportunity to sport Boston across their chests. We are excited about what this group will do moving forward this season and beyond. Next, the full group will compete back here at Franklin Park in three weeks where we will get to test ourselves against some of the top teams in the northeast and the NCAA."
Leading the Terrier pack was freshman Vera Sjöberg who placed seventh in the 3.1K with a time of 11:06.2. Close behind were freshmen Olivia Dodds in ninth place (11:15.4) and Addison Schmidt in 11th (11:17.2).
Two more freshmen placed in the top-15 for the Terriers. Madeline Finton recorded a 14th-place finish (11:23.9) immediately followed by Candace Tytler (11:26.9). Additionally, Freshman Lily Borin took 25th (11:53.0).
Rounding out BU's top seven runners were freshman Kate Edenson in 33rd (12:10.1) and senior Anna Kavanagh in 35th (12:11.9). Freshman Maura Woodland-Medenilla closed out the race for the Terriers and placed 42nd (12:21.5).
BU will continue the season at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown on Friday, Sept. 23 at Franklin Park.
