Vance Campbell and Michael Weeks were sworn in as government ministers in Bermuda yesterday.
Weeks, who has over 20 years of experience in residential treatment services, replaced Renee Ming in the Ministry of National Security.
“One of the major challenges that we face in Bermuda is the increasing violence in our community, and Minister Weeks’ work and life experiences will equip him well in this role as he dedicates full-time attention as Minister of National Security in this new chapter of his public service,” Premier David Burt stated at the swearing-in ceremony.
Weeks said he looks forward to working with stakeholders make to Bermudian communities safe.
“The issue of gun and gang violence that our country is experiencing is without a doubt a community problem. If we have to find solutions, we cannot police ourselves out of the situation. We need everyone,” He said.
“This surge is not a black or white thing. This is a colourless thing. Rich or not wealthy, educated or not education, all of us must get involved.”
Campbell, who is a Certified Public Accountant, will take over the Ministry of Tourism portfolio from Burt.
The premier said: “Campbell’s experience will serve the Government well in his new role as the Minister of Tourism as we rebuild Bermuda’s tourism for the benefit of our people.”
Campbell said he was humbled by the appointment and looks forward to serving Bermuda.
“As Minister for tourism, I will meet with all key stakeholders on a regular basis. I will listen and I will always strive to do what’s best for my country and the citizens of Bermuda,” Campbell said.
