REED CITY — The Reed City disc golf course at Rambadt Park is getting closer to completion as volunteer crews work to clear the brush from the tee boxes and fairways.

To date, Holes 3 through 7 have been cleared and prepped for installation of tee pads and baskets, Reed City council member Dan Burchett told the Pioneer.

Once a hole is cleared, they set up portable baskets in the area so that they can do a dry run and see if there is more clearing that needs to be done, he said.

“We are trying to get the hardest ones out of the way first, and then we will work toward the easier ones,” Burchett said. “Edstrom’s Neighborhood garage owns a brush hog and he (Darrin) is allowing us to use that, so that is huge. That thing is like six guys together.

Burchett, along with project overseer Steve Hedstrom, have joined groups of volunteers in clearing out areas of Rambadt Park where the disc golf course is being laid out.

“What we really need is more volunteers to join us on the workdays,” he added. “Volunteers from Grand Rapids have been coming up and helping out because they are very excited about this.”

In an effort to entice more volunteers to come out, White Stone Bakery in Reed City is offering gift certificates to anyone who participates.

“White Stone Bakery reached out to us about giving a small thank-you for anyone that is out there working.” Burchett said. “They are handing out free gift certificates for iced coffee that we can give to those who come out, which is much appreciated.

“It is nice that a local business is stepping up to help out,” he added.

The next scheduled course workday is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 24. Additional course workdays will be Aug. 14, 21 and 28.

“Once the course is playable, there will be a sneak-peak tournament for those interested in trying it out,” Burchett said.

A tentative grand opening event is scheduled for August, but that will depend on how the clearing process goes, he said.
