Kentucky fans have to be pleased with that. Through 20 minutes, Kentucky leads North Carolina 38-34 and has had multiple runs and a better showcase of first-half shooting than in any of its previous five games.
What's impressive is the 76-point pace despite 3-of-8 shooting from 3-point range. UK hasn't been able to rely on the perimeter shot (a theme all this season) but it's held off a UNC team that is getting some good looks close to the basket.
Brandon Boston Jr. (12 points) and Davion Mintz (11 points) have led the way for John Calipari's squad. Mintz has made a few really good plays (and three 3-pointers) to give UK some gas. For UNC Caleb Love (nine points) and Garrison Brooks (eight points) have been the most reliable,
For 1-4 UK, a big stretch here. A loss means going into Louisville with at-large chances on life support. For UNC, a 4-3 record wouldn't allay concerns that last season's dismal run is due for a big turnaround going into 2021.
