Shane Bieber silences Tigers as Indians win again: Box score, game rewind - MLive.com

DETROIT -- Cleveland starting pitcher Shane Bieber struck out 11 batters over seven innings to lead the Indians to a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers Saturday night at Comerica Park.

The Tigers (9-9) have now lost four games in a row. They’ve lost 19 consecutive games against the Indians, dating to last April.

The Indians (11-9) will go for the series sweep and their 20th consecutive win on Sunday at 1:10 p.m.

Tigers starter Spencer Turnbull failed to make it out of the fifth, giving up three runs on six hits and, most damaging, four walks.

The Tigers brought the winning run to the plate in the ninth inning. Willi Castro walked and Jonathan Schoop reached on catcher’s interference. Pinch-hitter JaCoby Jones hit an RBI double down the left-field line to score the Tigers’ first run. But then Cameron Maybin hit a come-backer to the mound to end the game.

Bieber now has 53 strikeouts in his first five starts of the season, most in Indians’ history. This was the 10th double-digit strikeout game of his career.

GAME REWIND

Bottom 9th: The Tigers brought the winning run to the plate against Indians closer Brad Hand. After Willi Castro walked and Jonathan Schoop reached on catcher’s interference, the Tigers had three shots to push some runs in. Jeimer Candelario hit a deep fly-out to left for out No. 2. Pinch-hitter JaCoby Jones doubled down the line in left to score the Tigers’ first run. Cameron Maybin ended the game with a groundout to Hand. Final: Indians 3, Tigers 1.

Top 9th: Rony Garcia pitches a 1-2-3 ninth inning, the first scoreless outing of his brief MLB career. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 8th: Indians reliever Nick Wittgren picked up right where Shane Bieber left off, retiring the Tigers 1-2-3. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Top 8th: Tigers reliever Bryan Garcia issued two walks and committed a throwing error, but still managed to escape the inning without allowing a run. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 7th: The Tigers, somewhat incredibly, were able to bring the tying run to the plate after Jonathan Schoop reached on an error and Christin Stewart singled. But Cameron Maybin grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Top 7th: Tigers reliever Jose Cisnero walked two batters but didn’t allow a run, striking out Carlos Santana to end the inning. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 6th: A quick, 1-2-3 inning for Shane Bieber, but no strikeouts! Maybe he decided to stop at 10. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Top 6th: Down River’s John Schreiber keep expects his scoreless inning streak to eight with another nice outing. He reties the Indians 1-2-3, getting Domingo Santana looking on a K. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 5th: The Tigers put a ball in a play, and even got a hit, two rarities this evening against Shane Bieber. But Austin Romine’s single does no harm and Bieber’s shutout continues. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Top 5th: Jose Ramirez walked and Carlos Santana worked another 3-2 count for smashing a double to right-center. Spencer Turnbull didn’t make it out of the inning. John Schreiber retired the final batter. Indians 3, Tigers 0.

Bottom 4th: Shane Bieber is settling in just fine. He strikes out the side in order in the fourth and has gotten his last eight outs on strikeouts. Indians 2, Tigers 0.

Top 4th: Sandy Leon hit a sharp double to right, but the Indians grounded out three times to shortstop Niko Goodrum to end the inning. Indians 2, Tigers 0.

Bottom 3rd: Niko Goodrum drew a two-out walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. But he was stranded there when Shane Bieber got a generous outside corner on a called third strike on Willi Castro. Indians 2, Tigers 0.

Top 3rd: Spencer Turnbull walked the No. 8 and 9 batters to start the inning and the Indians seemed poised for a blow-up. Instead, Turnbull escaped by striking out Francisco Lindor and getting Franmil Reyes to ground into a bases-loaded double play. Indians 2, Tigers 0.

Bottom 2nd: Jonathan Schoop led off the inning with a double down the left-field line, but he was nabbed at third on an alert but risky play by first baseman Carlos Santana one batter later. Santana elected to fire to third rather than get the easy out at first on a grounder hit right to him. Shane Bieber ended the inning by striking out Christin Stewart and Cameron Maybin. Tigers 0, Indians 0.

Top 2nd: Domingo Santana had a loud hit to the wall in left field, but the carom was played beautifully by Christin Stewart, who threw him out at second base to end the inning. Tigers 0, Indians 0.

Bottom 1st: Niko Goodrum launched one 380 feet to the wall in left-center, but it was tracked down by Indians center fielder Oscar Mercado. After that, it was an easy first inning for Shane Bieber. Tigers 0, Indians 0.

Top 1st: Tigers starter Spencer Turnbull gives up a single to Jose Ramirez but fights Carlos Santana to a 3-2 count before striking him out to end the frame. Indians 0, Tigers 0.
