Boone’s restaurant opens to the public Saturday, September 5, at the Bobby Jones Golf Course on Northside Drive in Buckhead. Located in the Murray Golf House overlooking the links, the restaurant serving “upscale, new American cuisine” plans to open for limited dine-in service.

Executive chef Austin Rocconi created dishes for the menu centered around the seasons and his time spent in California, Texas, Mississippi, and Georgia. Think a Gulf shrimp roll mixed with eggplant mayo and brown butter, medallions of steak, saffron tagliatelle tossed with summer vegetable, olive oil and basil, and cauliflower steak topped with rice risotto, mushrooms, and olives.

Drinks at Boone’s lean into whiskey, bourbon, and gin, like a take on the Bobby Jones cocktail made with Peach-infused bourbon or a gin fizz infused with raspberries.

During the ongoing pandemic, seating is limited inside the dining room, on the covered patio, and the veranda overlooking the course. Servers and other customer-facing employees are required by the state to wear masks.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms imposed a citywide mask mandate on the public in July, which includes inside private businesses. However, the governor’s latest executive order gives the owners of restaurants and other private businesses the choice to opt out of enforcing a local mandate on their property.

It’s unclear if Bobby Jones plans to enforce the mandate and require patrons of the golf course and restaurant to wear masks inside buildings throughout the property.

Named for Augusta businessman, philanthropist, and golfer Boone Knox, Boone’s is run by the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation. The restaurant was designed as part of a project by students from nearby Savannah College of Art and Design.

Bobby Jones opened in 1932 as Atlanta’s first public golf course, in honor of the legendary golfer and native Atlantan. Beyond Jones’ many sports accomplishments over the decades, he helped found and design Augusta National Golf Club and co-founded the Masters Tournament.

Open for lunch and dinner, Wednesday - Sunday. Reservations encouraged. Brunch forthcoming.
