Woof. Jon Lester did not have great command tonight, and when that happens for him in his post-velocity days, he’s at risk for giving up a lotta hard contact. And if it happens when he’s facing a particularly aggressive and powerful lineup, yeah, the damage can come quickly and be severe.
The White Sox did the maximum version of themselves tonight, striking out a whopping 12 times, but hitting half as many homers:
The White Sox hit 6 home runs against the Cubs tonight.
That's the most HR by either team vs the other in the history of the Crosstown Chicago rivalry (so, since interleague began).

Offensively, aside from mustering the obligatory and wasted bases loaded situations, it was nothing doing for the Cubs. Given the lineup and the match-up against a fellow crafty lefty, I can’t say any of us were shocked. This was a terrible match-up for the Cubs, particularly without Kris Bryant, particularly without Steven Souza, and particularly while Javy Báez is so off. I can’t say why the White Sox had Dallas Keuchel throw 114 pitches in a nine-run game, but anyway. He was very good.
Ball it up. Throw it away. Like an old and raggedy and smelly pair of socks.
