The Bermuda national football team put on an excellent showing to claim a 2-0 over Panama at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium in Panama City, with Nahki Wells scoring twice for the Gombey Warriors.
The CNL match report said, “Bermuda went to Panama and will leave with an historic victory, with a 2-0 win in League A at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, the first-ever Nations League win for the Gombey Warriors.
“It was also Bermuda’s first win versus Panama since March 2, 1974 when they claimed a 1-0 victory in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
“Just days earlier, Kyle Lightbourne’s squad dropped a 4-1 result to the same team, making the path to the Nations League final look treacherous with trips to Panama and a pair of contests against Gold Cup champion Mexico. Yet, Sunday’s victory put the Caribbean side right back in the picture.
“Bermuda took the lead in the after a bouncing cross from Reggie Lambe got through to Zeiko Lewis. He nudged the ball over to forward Nahki Wells, who tapped in for the opener.
“Wells doubled the lead just after the hour mark with Lambe beating his defender and playing the Queen’s Park Rangers man through. He tucked the ball into the net with his left foot.
“Panama pushed to get back in the game and had more chances, but center back Donte Bragman proved difficult for Panama to get crosses over, and an 80th-minute save from Dale Eve kept the Central Americans off the scoreboard.“
