Hurricane Central
- Hurricane Humberto is tracking well off the Southeast U.S. coast.
- High surf and dangerous rip currents are expected along the Southeast coast.
- Humberto could pass near Bermuda as a hurricane later this week.
Hurricane Humberto is generating high surf and rip currents along the Southeast coast and will also potentially threaten Bermuda later this week.
Humberto is moving slowly northeast away from the Southeast coast and will accelerate toward the east-northeast early this week.
Additional strengthening is likely, and Humberto could approach Bermuda by later Wednesday into Thursday, possibly as a Category 2.
It's too early to determine the severity of any impacts in Bermuda, but residents and visitors there should begin preparations. Depending on Humberto's exact path, tropical storm-force winds (39 to 73 mph) could arrive in Bermuda by late Wednesday.
For now, Humberto will bring high surf and dangerous rip currents to the Southeast coast. Beachgoers from the east coast of Florida to North Carolina should stay out of the water through early this week.
Humberto will also bring localized heavy rainfall to the Bahamas through Monday.
