HUMBOLDT — Brynn Malo, Moriah Knapp and Ryan Stundahl all secured their spots in the Class 3A state cross country meet here Wednesday with Top-7 individual finishes.

Malo, competing on her home course for Humboldt, earned runner-up honors in the girls race, while Algona’s Knapp was seventh and Stundahl sixth.

Peyton Morey of Spencer won the girls title in 20:28.05, as Gilbert, Sioux City Heelan and MOC-Floyd Valley advanced. North Polk’s Zach Sporaa claimed the boys race in 16:19.54 to lead the Comets, with Gilbert and MOC-Floyd Valley also moving on.

Led by Malo, the Wildcat girls placed eighth overall and Algona was ninth. Malo, a freshman, had a time of 20:41.75, with teammate Meg Zweibohmer 47th and Alana Malo 50th.

Bella Metli placed 54th, Joslyn Orr was 58th, Stattelman Elsie finished 66th and Reagan Lee was 71st.

For Algona, Knapp, a senior, had a time of 20:54.20 with Malyn Davis finishing 30th overall. Allison Casey was 61st, Reese Taylor placed 65th, Allyssa Lohman was 73rd and Paige Meendering finished 74th.

Webster City, with just three runners, was led by senior Emma Peck, as she placed 53rd in 23:23.27. Natalie Eggers was 78th and Caroline Ehn 79th.

In the boys team race, Algona finished fifth, Webster City was 11th and Humboldt 12th.

Stundahl, a senior, had a time of 17:05.75, just missing out on the Top-3 by less than two seconds. Gavin Weber came home in 22nd overall with Jace Mortensen 29th, Barrett Morgan 44th, Sam Tiili 45th, Brenden Lucas 55th and Isaac Wilson 56th.

Brayden Henley paced the Lynx, as the senior was 38th in 18:48.90. Aiden Rahe finished 40th, Kyzer Zinnel was 77th, Owen Patterson 78th, Tristen Maxwell 85th and Gabe Rollins 86th.

Humboldt freshman Gabe Thumma had the top time for the Wildcats, finishing 39th in 18:49.54. Hayden Hansen placed 66th with Jaden Himrod, Austin Little, Jayden Gargano and Justin Ash in 69th-through-72nd. Collin Vik was 83rd overall.

The 3A state meet will take place next Saturday morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. in Fort Dodge from Lakeside Golf Course at Kennedy Park.

Joining Gilbert, Sioux City Heelan and MOC-Floyd Valley in the girls race at state will be Adel-ADM, Glenwood, Harlan, Pella, Ballard, Carlisle, Mount Vernon-Lisbon, Washington, Center Point-Urbana, Solon, Clear Creek-Amana and Clear Lake, while on the boys side, Glenwood, Lewis Central, Adel-ADM, Pella, Winterset, Carlisle, Mount Vernon-Lisbon, Western Dubuque, Fort Madison, Marion, Solon, Clear Creek-Amana, North Polk, Gilbert and MOC-Floyd Valley make up the field.
