Watch Shiner High School's Doug Brooks selflessly let teammate score TD in state title game - Chron

Shiner High School star Doug Brooks has scored plenty of touchdowns in his career, but he’ll be remembered for the touchdown he gave to a teammate.

In Shiner's 42-20 win over Post in the Class 2A, Division I state championship game Thursday at the Cowboys' AT&T Stadium, the 260-pound Brooks, who plays fullback and defensive tackle for Shiner, stripped Post quarterback Slayden Pittman and snagged the football in mid-air.

As Brooks began his 20-yard rumble to the end zone, he noticed his fellow defensive lineman Max Machacek trailing close behind him. When Brooks got inside the 5-yard line, he turned and handed the ball to Machacek to let him cross the goalline and celebrate his touchdown in the state title game.

The Victoria Advocate’s Mike Forman, who covers Shiner, speculates that it’s Machacek’s first varsity touchdown.

Later in the game, Brooks, who was named the game's Defensive MVP, blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown of his own. He also had some punishing runs on offense.

Shiner's sophomore running back Dalton Brooks, Doug's younger brother, rushed for two touchdowns and was named the game's Offensive MVP.

"They're not only special players, but they're great kids and huge playmakers," Shiner coach Daniel Boedeker told Fox Sports Southwest after the game. "Anytime those guys get on the field, you can always look for them to make a play, make a big difference in the ballgame and that's what they did  today."

Doug Brooks is Shiner’s best player and scores often from his fullback position. He’s just a junior but already has a scholarship offer from the University of Houston.

"I want to be the best to come through Shiner," Doug Brooks said on Fox Sports Southwest after the win.

Reality TV fans might remember the Brooks brothers from the reality series Friday Night Tykes, which is available on Netflix. They played youth football for the Yoakum Outlawz.
