No. 9 Cincinnati and No. 23 Tulsa were first scheduled to play in the regular season on Oct. 17 before the meeting was postponed to Dec. 5 and then moved to Dec. 4. Finally, the game was moved to Dec. 12 in what was to be the regular-season finale for both. That game was wiped out, too, due to COVID-19 issues in the Cincinnati program.
But after all the postponements and uncertainty, the Bearcats and Hurricane are finally set to square off in the AAC Championship Game with both programs searching for their first AAC titles. Cincinnati played in the game last season but lost to Memphis, while Tulsa has never been on this stage. The Hurricane were not predicted to compete for the conference title but have made a habit of winning close games this season on their way to compiling a 6-1 record. Their only loss came in the season opener against Oklahoma State, which was ranked No. 11 at the time.
Cincinnati is unbeaten at 8-0 and has won all but one game by double-digits behind a stifling defense and efficient offense. But the Bearcats have not gotten much respect from the College Football Playoff Selection Committee and actually dropped a spot in this week's ranking despite not playing last week. So while an appearance in the CFP seems unlikely, the Bearcats have something to prove as they take the field in pursuit of a conference title.
