NASCAR is breaking new ground as the Cup Series heads to Daytona International Speedway Sunday for a first-of-its-kind race.
Because of schedule changes dictated by the coronavirus pandemic, NASCAR moved a scheduled race at Watkins Glen International in New York to Daytona. Since Watkins Glen was one of just two road courses that the series raced — the other is Sonoma Raceway in California, where the 2020 race was also canceled — NASCAR looked for a way to add a road course race back to its schedule.
The solution: Put the Cup Series on the Daytona road course for the first time. That circuit, which is part of the Daytona International Speedway complex, is the same course — with modifications — used for the annual Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona sports car race.
Here's all the information you need to get ready for Sunday's GoBowling 235:
START TIME: 3 p.m. ET.
TV: NBC. Pre-race broadcast begins at 2:30 p.m. ET.
RADIO: Motor Racing Network. STREAMING: For those who can sign in with their cable/satellite provider's credentials, you can stream at stream.nbcsports.com.
RACE DISTANCE: 65 laps around the 14-turn, 3.61-mile road course for a total of 234.65 miles.
STAGE LENGTHS (laps per stage): Stage 1: 15, Stage 2: 15, Stage 3: 35.
LAST TIME: This is the innaugural race on the road course at Daytona International Speedway. In August 2019, Chase Elliott dominated at Watkins Glen — the site that was originally supposed to host a race this weekend — leading 80 of 90 laps on the 2.450-mile road course.
QUALIFYING: There was no practice or qualifying on the road course this weekend. The lineup was determined by using NASCAR’s new competition-based formula, which takes into account finishing position from the previous race (weighted 50%), ranking in team owner points (35%) and the fastest lap from the previous race (15%).

LINEUP: The math rewarded points leader Kevin Harvick, who will start on the pole. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver has six wins this season to lead the series. He will be joined on the front row by Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing, who sits just behind Harvick with five wins in 2020. Harvick and Hamlin finished 1-2, respectively, last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway in the second race of a weekend doubleheader.
