A TEENAGER who was set to swap the shores of Dunbar for the Caribbean Sea has seen the incredible trip put on hold.
Abigail Arthur was to spend part of her school summer holidays on the tropical island of Bermuda with the Sea Cadets.
However, the trip has been temporarily shelved amid concerns surrounding coronavirus.
Each year, the Sea Cadets arrange for cadets from across the United Kingdom to travel to different countries, including Sweden, New Zealand, Canada and Bermuda.
However, this year’s trip has been postponed, with hopes that it could instead take place in the summer of 2021.
Abigail has been a member of the Dunbar group for four years and would have linked up with the Sea Cadet unit in Bermuda, who host the exchange, for a series of activities on land and sea.
Before the event was cancelled, Abigail, an S4 pupil at Dunbar Grammar School, said: “‘It is a great sense of achievement and I am proud to be representing the Dunbar Sea Cadets and the wider community.
“This is a really exciting opportunity to be going to Bermuda and I can’t wait to meet new people and learn about the culture of Bermuda.”
Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Martin Galloway, commanding officer of the Dunbar Sea Cadets, said: “The Sea Cadets offer fantastic opportunities for young people across the UK.
“I am so pleased and proud of Abigail on being selected to attend an international exchange, as she is a fantastic ambassador for us.”

We want to be able to continue telling you all about our community heroes: our NHS staff, council staff, teachers, carers, shop owners and shop workers, posties and bus and train drivers and the army of volunteers in every town and village helping the vulnerable.
But we need your support to do so. If you can, please buy a paper. And keep safe and keep well.
Thank you.
