bermudalagi.blogspot.com

WEST LAFAYETTE – As Indiana and other states ramp up the need for contact tracers to track the spread of coronavirus, Purdue University Global launched a new course in the discipline, offering it at no cost.

Purdue Global, an online arm of Purdue University, announced the self-study course on Thursday.

According to the school, the course will six to eight hours to complete and cover contact tracing protocols, how COVID-19 is contracted and transmitted and the legal requirements surrounding contact tracing.

“Our assessment vehicle will ensure that all students have mastered the content,” Dr. Melissa Burdi, dean and vice president-elect for the Purdue Global School of Nursing, said. “Specifically, we will conduct a practical exercise by giving them several cases to review and answer what they would do in the situation. Then we will provide feedback on their choice with value-added rationale.”

This week, the Indiana State Department of Health started overseeing contact tracing for all 92 counties, after signing a $43 million contract with a private firm to do that work. Maximus, a health and human services provider, will hire about 500 people to staff a call center that will reach out to people who have tested positive, interview them in-depth, and notify their close contacts to tell them to quarantine for two weeks.

Purdue Global contact tracing course costs $295, though that fee is being waived for now, according to the school. For more information, go to purdueglobal.edu/covid-19-contact-tracing-course/.
