Staples Center will be incredibly emotional on Friday night, as the Los Angeles Lakers take the court for the first time since the death of nine people, including Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna, in a helicopter crash on Sunday. The Lakers' game against the Clippers, scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to the tragedy, so Friday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers is the first time they will see game action since Bryant's death.
During the game, there will be several tributes to Bryant and the others who lost their lives in the crash. Fans in attendance will receive No. 8 and No. 24 shirts and the players will wear black "KB" patches on their jerseys, along with other tributes. Blazers forward Carmelo Anthony, a close friend of Bryant's, is not with the team and will not play in the game, reportedly due to grief and emotional stress.
The Lakers have a tall task ahead of them in a traumatic time following the tragedy, as focusing on basketball may be understandably difficult. They enter Friday night with a record of 36-10, the best in the Western Conference and second-best in the NBA.
CBS Sports will be here throughout the game with live updates from the Lakers' return to the court.
