Law firm Kennedys has bolstered its ranks with the addition of three lawyers.
Newcomers Nicolas Champ, Lewis Preston and Roshan Sidhu have each worked in an international law firm, and have gained significant professional experience in Bermuda, England and Wales, the British Virgin Islands, France, and Hong Kong, the firm said.
Mr Champ, a corporate and commercial lawyer, has experience working in Bermuda, London and Paris.
Mr Preston, who has worked in London and Hong Kong, is an English and BVI-qualified barrister with experience as an advocate and as a litigator handling corporate, commercial and insolvency disputes, many of which involve Bermuda companies with business dealings in Singapore and Hong Kong, the firm said.
Mr Sidhu is an English-qualified solicitor with experience in insurance and reinsurance disputes, including “Bermuda Form” insurance arbitrations seated in London and Bermuda.
Mark Chudleigh, partner and head of Kennedys’ Bermuda office, said the new recruits’ arrival “gives us enormous strength and depth across all of our specialist practice areas”.
Nick Miles, head of Kennedys’ corporate department in Bermuda, said the two Bermudian trainees in the firm’s London office, Katherine Freisenbruch and Alex Cooper, were nearing the end of their first six-month training seats en route to qualification as English solicitors.
Mr Miles said: “We are hopeful that Bermudian law graduates will continue to apply for training and pupillage positions in the months and years to come, with several Bermudian law students having recently applied for London positions commencing in September 2019 and September 2020; and applications sought for positions in our New York office, as our global network of offices continues to strengthen its longstanding relationship with the Bermuda insurance market, both on the contentious and non-contentious side.”
Kennedys’ Bermuda office employs eight lawyers, all of whom are dual-qualified in England and Bermuda, with some also admitted to the Bars of other jurisdictions. Further growth is anticipated in the coming months, the firm said.
