CHARLESTON, South Carolina, Feb 8, CMC – Bermudian winger Zeiko Lewis, who has been playing in Europe, is set to return to America after joining United Soccer League (USL) club Charleston Battery.

The South Carolina club announced on Thursday that they had signed the Bermuda international for the 2019 season.

“Can’t wait to get started. Thank you Charleston Battery for welcoming me to their family,” the 23-year-old winger said on his social media site.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the lads and having a good 2019 season.

“I am always looking to leave a positive impression on my team-mates, clubs and the leagues that I play in. Can’t wait to get started.”

Charleston start their pre-season on Sunday away to the College of Charleston.

Lewis, the 14th player to be added to the Battery’s 2019 roster, joins the club from Icelandic first division side HK Kopavogur.

Charleston play in the Eastern Conference of the Championship, which is the top league in the three-tier USL structure.

They finished fourth in their conference last term to earn an 11th consecutive appearance in the play-offs, where they lost 1-0 against Lewis’s former team New York Red Bulls II.

“I have played against Charleston Battery and they are a very good team,” Lewis added. “They are a strong technical side and it will be good to get out there and get started with them.

“I have not been around any of the guys before. But I’ve played against them and they seem like a good group of guys. I’m looking forward to getting to know them.”

Before his move to Iceland he was selected 17th overall by the New Red Bulls in the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft but never played in the top flight and was released to Red Bulls’ reserve side.
